The news has been bleak, and it’s hard to remember that good things are still happening around us. But babies are being born even while our medical resources are being stretched to the limit.

Our middle daughter is a nurse midwife at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville. She told us about new policies and procedures the hospital has instituted to help keep moms, babies and medical staff safe. One change was to allow midwives and labor & delivery nurses to wear cloth surgical hats, to conserve the supply of disposable hats. Would I make hats for her team? Of course!

With an online pattern, I set to work. Twelve hats shipped last week and I love thinking about happy moms and newborns in Nashville, cared for by dedicated, nurturing nurses and midwives.
